Enlisted in the U.S. Army, 20 January 1959, Ft. Bliss,

El Paso, Texas.

Sent to Ft. Chaffee, Ft. Smith, Arkansas for basic

training. After basic training sent to Ft. Gordon, Augusta,

Georgia for training in the Teletypewriter Operator's

Course. Then served at Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville,

Alabama and Patrick AFB, Cape Canaveral, Florida,

as a communications operations specialist until being

discharged as a SGT at Ft. Stewart, Hinesville, Georgia,

23 Mar 1962.


Reenlisted in the US Army on 13 Feb 1963 as SP4 and sent to Ft. Huachuca, Sierra Vista, Arizona, as a communications operations specialist for the 459th Signal Battalion Operations Office.  Then sent on temporary duty to Ft. Gordon, Georgia, for training in the Teletypewriter Equipment Repair Course. After graduating in Sep 1963 as Honor Graduate, returned to Ft. Huachuca before being transferred in Jan 1964 to Headquarters, Allied Land Forces Southeast Europe & NATO Izmir, Turkey, as a teletypewriter repairman. Upon returning to the United States in Apr 1966, attended the Defense Language Institute, Presidio of Monterey, California, for a six month intensified course in the Spanish language. Upon graduation in Nov 1966 sent to the School of the Americas, Ft. Gulick, Panama Canal Zone as an instructor for Latin American students in teletypewriter equipment repair. Left the school as Staff SGT (SSG) in Sep 1968 for training on the Digital Subscriber Terminal Equipment (DSTE) at Ft. Monmouth, Redbank, New Jersey. After graduating in Feb 1969 sent to Viet Nam and served as Shift Supervisor in the Teletypewriter Equipment Repair Shop in the Phu Lam Signal Battalion, 1st Signal Brigade, Phu Lam. Returned to the US in Mar 1970 as a Staff SGT (SSG) for training as an Instructor for the Southeastern Signal School (later the US Army Signal School), Ft. Gordon, Georgia. Was an instructor in the Specialized Teletypewriter Equipment Repair Course making the rank of SGT 1st Class (SFC) in Oct 1972. Attended the Electronic Equipment Maintenance Advanced (NCOES) in Jun 1974 graduating as an Honor Graduate. In Mar 1978 sent to Co A, 304th Signal Battalion, Camp Red Cloud, Ouijonbu, Korea and served as a Platoon SGT and returned to the US as Master SGT (MSG) in Mar 1979. Sent to Ft. Sill, Lawton, Oklahoma, where he served as Project Officer to evaluate and write Soldiers Manuals on Target Acquisition Radar Systems for the US Army Field Artillery School. In Sept. 1981 transferred to Headquarters and Service Co., 5th Signal Command, Worms, Germany and served as 1st Sergeant (1SG) until Sep 1982, then served as Project Officer coordinating the engineering, acquisition and installation of office and Health/Dental Clinic telephone systems for the Communications Electronic Installation Agency (CEIA) Europe, Worms, Germany until returning to the US in Dec 1985. Assigned to the 59th Maintenance Battalion, 1st Logistics Brigade, Ft. Bragg, Fayetteville, North Carolina, as a Communications Electronics Maintenance Technician in the battalion operations section.
